They thought it was funny because of the look on my face. When I came back in with my paper work my M40 had been replaced by the M16. On one trip to a plumbing supply house I had to go back to my bike for a moment and I left my M40 on the shop counter. I have a sidecar on the bike and as a construction project manager I would often go to the supply house and pick up parts for my jobs. I ride a motorcycle and for a time I wore an M40 steel helmet. The Model 16 helmet came to me by chance. Left side - Societe Anonyme Des Fabriques D'Armes Reunies Liege Belgique I did read somewhere that this gun was of interest as the action (I believe the locking block) was the basis of the P-38. Perhaps it was a backup gun taken from some Boche or a BUG that the old mans father decided to abscond with. The small pistol was also from my stepfather. There is a takedown tool but no spare magazine. Underside of Barrel - Crown over N over 58986 Its not known which war this came from but I suspect WWI and that the firearm could be a commercial model bought through private purchase by a soldier, policeman or some official. The Luger and its holster were given to me by my stepfather. I'd appreciate any info that can be provided to help me understand what I have. Apologies ahead of time for the long post.
